Spanish varieties as L1: a matter between sociolinguistic attitude and grammar
Abstract
This article, framed in glotopolitical field, takes into consideration the possibility off using real language to teach grammar in school. The base case is that make use of real language implies revising the concepts of norm and standard that underlies school exercises, traditionally associated with the transnational standard present in grammatization instruments, wich/that are not very sensitive to varieties. To dismantle this pedagogy of ‘general Spanish’, the article proposes to think about linguistic standard as a gradual and mobile variable, and to reveal its political nature. To this purpose, the paper reviews the concept of norm coined by Eugenio Coseriu and the repercussions of his theory on other researchers of the varieties of Spanish. Then it exposes the features that characterize Buenos Aires Spanish in order to differentiate this city from other distribution centers of this pluricentric language. Finally, and inspired by critical linguistics, the article suggests some orientations to applied metalinguistic exercises in classroom.
