This experience story is a discussion on academic writing alongside a disabled person, in the undergraduate programs in Spanish/ Portuguese at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The experience story is based in two theoretical perspectives, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Critical literacies . UDL seeks to expand the access to knowledge for a diverse range of students, recognizing their differences and learning rhythms. Critical literacies consider the influences of situated variations - personal, situational and social factors - on reading, writing and speaking practices at university. We identified that when practicing more inclusive literacies, such as producing a critical review, it reflects on the teaching of reading and writing at university as a way of promoting equal rights for all citizenship.
